Charlottetown police are asking people to help them find a driver who hit a pedestrian in the Sherwood area the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 4, and didn't stay on the scene.

The 54-year-old man who was hit was seriously injured and taken to hospital, police said in a news release.

"A small dark-coloured sedan was travelling westbound on Richard Drive and collided with a pedestrian that was walking westbound on the right side of the road and was struck from behind," the release said, adding that the man was hit on the east side of the intersection with Doncaster Avenue.

"The vehicle would have sustained some noticeable damage to its front end. Evidence collected on scene suggests that the vehicle may be a Toyota Corolla, possibly a 2007 to 2012 model."

The accident happened at around 6:30 p.m., so it was dark at the time.
