'But it's time to hang up the ol' do-rag. Nomesayin?'
After a decade on Trailer Park Boys, actor Jonathan Torrens, known for his white aspiring rapper character J Roc, is taking his career in a different direction.
"I always saw J Roc as garnish, never as the main dish," Jonathan told Candy while reflecting on his time on the mockumentary series. He said that his character was always the most cartoonish, which allowed him to adopt different storytelling styles while remaining in the framework of the show.
The actor discussed his new project, a podcast Taggart and Torrens, which he co-produces with former Our Lady Peace drummer Jeremy Taggart. Podcasting allows Jonathan to work from home, which he describes as a kind of "social quicksand" but said that it was his ideal working environment. On the podcast, the two hosts discuss aspects of what they call "Canadianity."
Ultimately, as Jonathan told Candy, the most important role of his life is currently that of "The Great Daddoo": spending time with his two daughters. However, he mentioned that he will not let them watch Trailer Park Boys—not in his lifetime, anyway.
"Trailer Park Boys was a job, I'm trying to eke out a career," Jonathan said. "It's nice to be able to say, 'That was fun, now what's next?'"
