New Brunswick grads make prom safer but still kinda awkward
Break out the taffeta and fake ID cards. Prom is upon us. Or maybe you call it "grad" or "Thank God that's over."
Whatever you call the celebration that marks the end of high school, you no longer need to call it creepy or awkward. A group of Grade 12 students at Caledonia Regional High School has developed an app to help make grad safer.
The app's creators designed it to help students "get out of tight situations without seeming like 'an uncool person.'" It works two ways: you can either hit a panic button that emits three ear-piercing tones. Or it will deliver a fake call from your parents.
Our Because News panelists, Eric Peterson, Candy Palmater and Tom Howell gave their suggestions for other versions of a safe-grad app.
If you are within BlueTooth distance to a 3D printer, you can access the app and print a condom.- Candy Palmater on what the ideal prom app would do
In other New Brunswick news, Premier Brian Gallant this week announced a brand-new cabinet position, naming MLA Lisa Harris the Minister of Celtic Affairs. The position is not--as Tom Howell suggested--intended to oversee romantic trysts between people of Welsh, Scottish and Irish Descent.
